The Stanislaw August Poniatawski room
Stanisław August Poniatowski (1733-1763). His real name was Stanisław Antoni Poniatowski, but his contemporaries called him affectionately “king Staś”. Last ruler of Poland-Lithuania. Tried to strengthen the defences of the country as well as the management of the cities, creating Committees of Good Order in every voivodship. On 3 May 1791 the sejm legalised the first constitution in Europe and the second in the world. The king was its main author. He was a famous benefactor to artists and scientists. Abdicated after the 3rd partition of Poland and died in Petersburg.
