The August III room

August III (1733-1763), also called the Fat, came of the Wettin dynasty from Saxony. King of Poland and grand duke of Lithuania. A great expert and admirer of art, especially painting, he enriched the Drezden Gallery with world-class paintings. In 1733 Bach dedicated his great h-moll mass, one of the greatest works of musical genius, to August III.
